    Innovations in Science and Technology

    Yale Young Global Scholars

    Selected for the Yale Young Global Scholars summer programme in Innovations in Science and Technology, a selective residential session at Yale for secondary students drawn from around the world. It was the best two weeks of my education so far, and I have written about why.

    Shortlisted, John Locke Institute Essay Competition

    John Locke Institute

    Shortlisted for an essay asking whether humanity should fear a cashless society. The essay is published in full in the archive here.

    Virtual work experience

    Stripe

    A weekly commitment of four hours of scheduled sessions, plus team work between them, closing with a graded final presentation. The longest and most demanding of the work experience programmes I have done.

    The Business of Economics

    Rice University

    A virtual course made up of taught sections and a capstone project, covering mortgages, the distinction between micro and macroeconomics, and regional economics. It was the first sustained look I had at how wide the subject actually is.

    Reading Economics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Chemistry at A-level. The first three are the reason most of the writing on this site exists.

  10. 2023 to 2026

    GCSEs

    Tonbridge School

    Ten GCSEs: grade 9 in Mathematics and Drama; grade 8 in Biology, Physics, English Language, English Literature, History and Religious Studies; grade 7 in French. Chemistry stands at a 7 and has been submitted for a remark. Russian was taken a year early, in 2025, with a grade 9.

    Volunteer, special educational needs

    Local state primary school

    Every Wednesday, working with children at a state school for special educational needs.

    Volunteer English teacher

    Ukrainian refugee community

    Teaching English to refugees displaced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and helping them settle.

    Drums, working through Grade 5

    Twice weekly practice, assessed annually.

    Weekly training and a weekly match, for eight years.
