Ethics

I publish arguments in my own name while I am still at school. That is a reasonable thing to do only if I am clear about how the arguments were made and what they are worth, so this page sets out what I hold myself to. It is written to be checked against what I actually publish.

    Arguments before conclusions

    I try to state the strongest version of the position I am arguing against before I argue against it. Where I cannot construct that version honestly, it is usually evidence that I do not yet understand the position well enough to be writing about it.

    Sources, and reading them

    Data is linked to its source. Where I rely on someone else's framing, they are named, and where an argument is not original to me I say whose it is. I do not cite a source I have not opened. If you think I have used your work without citing it properly, write to me and I will correct it in place, dated and noted. I would much rather be told than leave it standing.

    Disclosed use of AI

    Where AI tools helped with research or drafting, the piece says so at the top and is listed on the AI assistance page with an account of exactly what the tools did. The argument and the conclusions are mine, and so is any error in them.

    Corrections in public

    When something here is wrong it is corrected in place, with the change noted and dated. It is not quietly edited and it is not deleted. Having been wrong is part of the record.

    Declared interests

    Where I have a stake in something I write about, the piece says so at the top rather than in a footnote. I would rather lose an argument than launder an interest.

  6. 06

    Limits

    I am a school student and a serious reader, not a credentialed economist, and the writing here should be weighed accordingly. I try to mark the line between what I have established and what I merely suspect, and to hold the second more loosely than a confident prose style may suggest.
